Spokeo - free removal

How to opt out of Spokeo without paying

Short answer

Spokeo does not charge to remove your listing. The opt-out is a free form: paste your profile URL, confirm by email, done in about five minutes. Nothing about the process is gated behind a subscription, and no paid service can unlock a faster or more complete removal at Spokeo than you can request yourself.

The free route, in full

There is no premium tier for removal and no fee at any step. What the process needs from you is the exact URL of the listing and an email address you can open.

  1. 1

    Find your listing

Search your name, email or phone number on the site and open the profile that is actually you. Spokeo keeps separate listings for name variants and different email addresses.

  2. 2

    Copy the profile URL

Take the full URL from the browser address bar. The form uses it to identify exactly which listing to suppress.

  3. 3

    Open the opt-out page

Go to spokeo.com/optout, also reachable from the Do Not Sell My Info link in the site footer.

  4. 4

    Submit and confirm

Paste the URL, enter your email, clear the CAPTCHA, then click the link in the confirmation email. Check spam if it does not arrive.

Why it looks like it costs money

Search for how to remove yourself and most of the page is occupied by companies selling removal subscriptions. That is not a conspiracy, it is just who can afford to compete for the query. The instructions those pages carry are usually accurate; the framing around them is a sales pitch.

The other source of confusion is Spokeo's own subscription, which is a product for people running searches. Being asked to subscribe while browsing the site is unrelated to whether removing your own listing costs anything. It does not.

What a paid service actually buys

Worth being straight about, since we do earn a commission when someone signs up through us. A removal service does not have privileged access, a faster queue or a hotline at Spokeo. It files the same free requests you can file.

What you are paying for is breadth and repetition: hundreds of brokers instead of one, and re-checking on a schedule when listings come back. If your concern is Spokeo specifically, that is a lot of money for a five-minute form. If it is the whole industry, the arithmetic changes, because doing several hundred opt-outs by hand and repeating them quarterly is a real commitment.

Sites that charge for the free version

A distinct and less honest category: pages that present themselves as the removal step and take a payment for submitting the same free form. The tell is being asked for card details before anything has been submitted anywhere.

The opt-out lives on spokeo.com. If you are being asked to pay on a page that is not Spokeo's own and is not openly selling an ongoing subscription service, close it.

After it is done

Removal is not permanent, and that is the honest catch with doing it free. Listings commonly return every three to six months as fresh records are ingested, so the free route means putting a reminder in your calendar and repeating it. That recurrence is the actual thing paid services sell.

One habit makes the free route much more effective: when you re-check, search by email address and phone number as well as by name. Spokeo builds separate listings keyed to different identifiers, so a profile can be sitting there under an old email address while a search for your name returns nothing. People conclude the removal held when in fact they only ever found one of two or three listings.

Quarterly is a sensible cadence for most people. If you have recently moved, married or changed your phone number, check sooner, because those are the events that generate the new public records a fresh listing gets built from.

Spokeo questions

Does Spokeo charge to remove your information?

No. The opt-out is free, takes about five minutes, and needs only your listing URL and an email address you can access.

Do I need a Spokeo subscription to opt out?

No. A subscription is for running searches. Removing your own listing requires no account and no payment.

Is a paid removal service better at removing me from Spokeo?

Not at Spokeo specifically. Services file the same free request. What they add is coverage of hundreds of other brokers and automatic re-checking when listings reappear.

How long does the free Spokeo opt-out take to process?

Spokeo processes removals in roughly 24 to 72 hours once you click the confirmation link.

Will my Spokeo listing come back?

Often, yes. Listings commonly reappear every three to six months as new records are ingested, so re-check periodically and repeat the free opt-out.

Someone is asking me to pay to remove my Spokeo listing. Is that legitimate?

If it is not Spokeo's own site and it is not openly selling an ongoing multi-broker subscription, treat it as a scam. The Spokeo opt-out itself never asks for payment.

Don't want to do this 62+ times?

Opting out one broker at a time works, but there are dozens of them and many relist you after a few months. A removal service files and re-files these requests for you across the whole industry.
