B2B contact databases
Opting out of B2B contact databases
You are in a B2B contact database because someone you have emailed synced their address book, not because you signed up. The record is work-shaped: your title, employer, work email and often a direct dial. Removal is keyed to that work email address, which is the detail that decides whether the request finds anything.
Why you are listed
These databases are built from contact data contributed by their own users. A colleague, a supplier or someone you exchanged two emails with connects their inbox to a sales tool, and everyone in that address book becomes a record. You were never asked and never told.
That origin explains the shape of what they hold. There is no address history or list of relatives here. There is your name, your employer, your job title, a work email address and frequently a direct dial number, which is the combination sales teams pay for.
The work email is the key
The single most common reason a B2B opt-out appears to fail is using a personal email address. The record was filed under the work address a contact list supplied, so a request from a personal address genuinely finds nothing, and the site tells you so in a way that reads like a denial.
This gets harder if you have changed jobs, because the record may sit under a former employer's domain you can no longer access. In that case say so explicitly in the request rather than submitting a personal address and assuming it failed.
Why a direct dial is the real risk
A work email in a database is mildly annoying. A direct dial number tied to your name, title and employer is the raw material for voice phishing against your own organisation, because it lets a caller reach you without going through a switchboard and lets them name your manager while doing it.
That is the concrete reason to bother with this category even if you do not mind the sales emails.
Removal decays faster here
These databases re-ingest continuously, so a removed profile can be rebuilt the next time anyone who has you in their contacts connects an inbox. That is a faster cycle than the public-records refresh that rebuilds people-search listings.
Re-check every few months, and expect this to be the category that needs repeating most often.
