Short answer
PeopleWhiz is a legitimate people-search service with no federal enforcement action we could find, and it is the only broker in our library that demands identity documents to process a removal. Almost none of its competitors ask for this, so it is a deliberate choice on their part rather than an industry norm.

Is PeopleWhiz a scam?
No, it is a real service. But the ID requirement deserves scepticism on its own terms: you are being asked to send identity documents to a company whose business is collecting personal data, in order to have personal data removed.

A people-search and background-report service returning names, ages, address history, phone numbers, relatives and public records.

Is it legal?
It states it is not a consumer reporting agency, so its reports may not lawfully be used for employment, tenant, or credit decisions. That label is not self-executing: in September 2023 the FTC penalised TruthFinder and Instant Checkmate $5.8 million for operating as consumer reporting agencies while marketing background reports for screening, so what a site calls itself does not settle the question.

We found no federal regulatory enforcement action against PeopleWhiz. That is worth stating plainly rather than leaving to implication - an empty enforcement record is a point in its favour, and we are not going to manufacture a controversy to make this page more dramatic.
